Welcome to Friendly Visitor!
As a Friendly Visitor volunteer, you can help alleviate the loneliness and social isolation of our homebound seniors and disabled neighbors. You are going beyond the social interactions that occur with regular meal deliveries. By being a Friendly Visitor, you can help extend the independence and health of our clients as they age. These valuable connections provide our clients with much-needed companionship.
Volunteers and clients are matched based on similar interest, hobbies, life experiences, and location of client and volunteer, gender preference, and availability.
HOW TO GET STARTED
Prior to being matched with a client, volunteers must attend a 45 minute training. Once you sign up, we will reach out to you to schedule the training!
Friendly Visitor is funded by the City of San Antonio, Department of Human Services.
Volunteer applicants must be 18 years or older. If a minor is volunteering with Friendly Visitor, they are required to have their volunteer service supervised by a parent/guardian. Friendly Visitor volunteers are expected to commit to a six-month match with a Meals on Wheels client.
